St.Gallen - Militzer & Münch has opened a new branch office in the Chinese megacity of Chongqing. This is the company’s eighth branch in China. With this move, the logistics service provider based in the canton on St.Gallen is seeking to further strengthen its traffic between Asia and Europe.

Militzer & Münch (M&M) has opened an eighth branch in China. The subsidiary will be based in the megacity of Chongqing, located in the south-west of the country. According to a press release, the city, which constitutes the economic hub for the wider region, benefits from the Chinese government’s strategy aimed at developing the western areas of the country. As such, the city offers “great potential for further growth”, the press release states.

The city, which has a population of 32 million people, is already an important railway junction along the new Silk Road. It is connected to inland cities by road, barge and air. Moreover, Chongqing is the starting point for the Yuxinou-Sino Euro block train with a route that passes through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland all the way to Duisburg in Germany.

“China is of central importance for our growth in Asia”, comments Andreas Löwenstein, Regional Managing Director Asia/Far East, in the press release. “The team at the new branch office will cooperate closely with our country units in Europe to strengthen our Asia-Europe traffics”, he adds.

According to lyar Sherkati, Managing Director of M&M’s Chinese country unit, the new branch “will help us to improve our network and presence in Central and Western China”. He goes on to explain that the company will now seek to “grow the local business and provide diversified and high-quality services throughout”.
