Bern - RUAG is to act as a subcontractor for maintenance works on 22 F-5 aircraft and 44 engines for the US Navy. The jets were bought by the US Navy from the Swiss Air Force just over two years ago.

RUAG has been awarded a comprehensive contract for maintenance work on 22 F-5 fighter jets. The technology partner of the Swiss Armed Forces will undertake specific MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) services as a subcontractor on behalf of the civilian company Tactical Air Support from the USA. Moreover, RUAG will also be responsible for overhauling a total of 44 J-85 engines. The US Navy has enlisted the services of Tactical Air Support by entrusting the company to oversee a comprehensive modification program for these F-5 jets, which forms the basis for this contract. The US Navy bought these aircraft from the Swiss Air Force just over two years ago.

“This contract marks an important milestone for RUAG”, comments Thomas Kipfer, Senior Vice President of the Air Business Area, in the press release. “It gives us the ability to preserve our unique competence with regard to the F-5, which is vital to our core business, thus allowing us to make our contribution to sovereign security for Switzerland. It also strengthens our position on the international market”, Kipfer adds.

According to Philippe Erni, Vice President Marketing & Sales, RUAG has built up its relationship with Tactical Air Support through continuous exchange in the past few years. “I am very pleased that the efforts and perseverance have paid off. With this contract, we are laying the foundation for a mutually profitable partnership that can be further expanded”, Erni explains.
