The start-up network Startfeld, based at the Lerchenfeld campus in St.Gallen, and the Switzerland Innovation Park Ost (SIP Ost) are to merge. The extraordinary general meeting of SIP Ost AG in addition to the general meetings of the associations Startfeld and Startfeld Innovationszentrum approved the merger on June 15, further details of which can be found in a press release.
When it was founded in 2021, the Switzerland Innovation Park Ost was located in the west of the city of St.Gallen on the Lerchenfeld campus. Startfeld has been working there since 2016 and now occupies an area in excess of 6,500 square meters. According to the press release, the offices, workshops and laboratories of around 30 start-ups are located there. Since Startfeld was founded in 2010, more than 900 jobs have been created, while investments of over 100 million Swiss francs have been initiated. Both organizations are now housed in the same building.
The employees of Startfeld will be taken on by the innovation park in the same function. According to the press release, the strategy of the innovation park envisages the development of two specialist focal points, namely “health and performance” and “sensor technology”. This is a core topic of the strong regional MEM (mechanical and electrical engineering) industry.
Roland Ledergerber, President of the Board of Directors of Switzerland Innovation Park Ost, underlines that that team at Startfeld has done a “great job of building up the park in recent years”. He adds: “Many companies have been established, many jobs have been created and a lot of entrepreneurial risk capital has been mobilized. We can build on this”.
