Kloten/Grenchen - Breitling will purchase sustainable aviation fuel for all its work-related travel on Swiss. As a result, the watch manufacturer will reduce its carbon dioxide emissions from air travel by some 80 percent. Both see this as a strong signal to the markets to expand the production and use of such sustainable fuels.

The airline Swiss and watch manufacturer Breitling  – both from the Greater Zurich Area – have entered into a new partnership which is the first of its kind in Switzerland: Breitling will now purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for all its work-related travel on Swiss-operated flights. According to a press release, Breitling thus becomes its first corporate client to commit entirely to the use of SAF.

By doing so, Breitling will reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by some 80 percent. “For us, sustainability is not a project, it’s a journey we’re on to transform our business,” adds Georges Kern, CEO at Breitling. Through this commitment, the Swiss watch manufacturer is “sending a strong signal to the markets to expand the production and use of such sustainable fuels”. SAF has currently only been available in limited quantities. Breitling is “serving here as an exemplary pioneer”, says Swiss CEO Dieter Vranckx. “And it’s collaborations like this which will substantially drive the further development of sustainable aviation fuels.” His company anticipates that further such SAF collaborations are set to follow.

The airline has also announced that it is now a member of the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein. The airline is underlining its commitment to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the fields of the environment, human rights, labor and anti-corruption as well as to the Swiss 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Swiss is joining as a subsidiary of Lufthansa, which has been a UN Global Compact member since 2002.
