Zurich - Zurich Soft Robotics intends to launch its mobile photovoltaic façade system on the market in 2024. A pilot project carried out in Dübendorf in the canton of Zurich generated good results. The start-up is now establishing a production facility of its own. The first major project is to be realized at Keller Druckmesstechnik AG in Winterthur.

Zurich Soft Robotics intends to launch its photovoltaic façade system on the market in 2024, further details of which can be found in a press release. The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) has developed a system known as Solskin that produces renewable solar power and can, at the same time, be used to shade interior spaces. Thanks to a patented robot drive and by harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the mobile photovoltaic modules are able to track the path of the sun.

Solskin was tested over a period of two years at the research and innovation building NEST, which is operated by the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in Dübendorf. During the pilot project, Zurich Soft Robotics achieved key milestones in connection with industrialization, reliability and maintenance.

The Zurich-based start-up is now establishing in-house production for small scale installations. In 2024, several small projects are set to be implemented, with a major project at Keller Druckmesstechnik AG in Winterthur in the pipeline thereafter. A new main production facility is to be built there by 2025, which will be equipped with a Solskin façade covering an area of 1,300 square meters. According to the company itself, Zurich Soft Robotics will use around 40 prefabricated Solskin modules to achieve this.

Zurich Soft Robotics will be exhibiting as part of the SWISS Pavilion at the UN Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai from November 30 to December 12. ce/ssp
