Geobrugg to supply protective fences for Detroit Grand Prix

The organizers of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix are ensuring the safety of the motorsport event by installing barriers and fence systems developed by Geobrugg. To this end, the manufacturer of protective systems technology from the St.GallenBodenseeArea will supply concrete barriers and mobile debris fence systems for 50 percent of the event area in Detroit, further details of which can be found in a press release. The remaining half of the event area in downtown Detroit should remain freely accessible for spectators.

The race weekend is set to take place June 2-4 at a new street circuit in Detroit. The drivers will hit top speeds of up to 280 kilometers per hour along some sections of the track. At the same time, however, the event organizers are confident that the race weekend will not disrupt public road traffic to any significant degree.

The mobile debris fence systems developed by Geobrugg can additionally be erected in just a matter of hours, meaning that “there are minimal disruptions to public roads”, the company writes.

It also allows the event organizers to “come back and put the finishing touches on the roads that have been kept open, until it’s time to go racing”, explains Michael Montri, President of the Detroit Grand Prix, in the press release. The organizers had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the fence and barrier system from Geobrugg during a race weekend in Nashville last year, making it an easy decision to go with the Thurgau-based firm again in Detroit later this year.
