Bern - Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin has received Slovenia’s Minister of Economy, Tourism and Sport, Matjaž Han. The exchange focused on economic relations with Switzerland’s sixth most important trading partner.

Guy Parmelin has met with Slovenia’s Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport, Matjaž Han, within the context of his duties as the Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER). The discussions in Bern primarily concerned the bilateral economic relations between the two countries, which were described as “excellent” in a press release issued by Parmelin’s federal department.

According to this, the annual trade volume grew by 80.4 percent on average between 2018 and 2023. Last year, it reached 27.8 billion Swiss francs. This means that Slovenia is currently Switzerland’s sixth most important trading partner.

According to the information provided, this is mainly down to the strategic initiatives of the Swiss pharmaceutical industry in Slovenia: “These include productive investments in products with very high added value, the establishment of efficient distribution centres for the import, export and transit of medicines, and a significant contribution to processing traffic by the Swiss pharmaceutical industry.”

At 2.4 billion Swiss francs, Switzerland accounts for 11.3 percent of Slovenia’s foreign investments. According to EAER, the two countries also have close ties in research and education. ce/mm
