Switzerland joins effort to secure global supply chains

Switzerland is joining a declaration supported by 28 states and associations of states for the protection of global supply and value chains. With its signature, the country aims to contribute to making these chains more secure, according to a statement from the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER). The affiliation with the Joint Statement on Cooperation on Global Supply Chains is “in line with the Federal Council's foreign economic strategy”, the EAER writes.

The declaration was originally drafted in 2022 by Australia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. 

Since June of that year, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, Norway, Panama, Serbia, Uruguay, Israel, and now Switzerland have joined the signatories. They aim is to address short-term disruptions and bottlenecks in transport and logistics, as well as the long-term challenges of supply and value chain resilience “in line with regulatory frameworks and the participants' international commitments”, according to the statement. ce/hs
