Wetzikon/Bagaluru - Reichle & De-Massari (R&M) opened a new production site for fiber optics in Bagalaru, India, in mid-May. In so doing, the global specialist for data and communications networks is expanding its capacities in India.

R&M has expanded its capacities in India. The global specialist for data and communications networks based in the Zurich Oberland region, the hilly south-eastern part of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland, has now opened a new fiber optic plant in Bagaluru, which is situated in the north of Bangalore, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by R&M. The infrastructure previously located in Jakkur near Bangalore has been transferred to the new site, while new production lines have also been put in place and production capacities increased.

“Demand for fiber optic connectivity solutions from R&M is increasing in India and Asia in general”, comments Laurent Amestoy, EVP Asia Pacific, in the press release. For this reason, the company is striving to increase its local capacities, while the new plant should also play a global role at the same time, as the company explains. “As the largest production site, it provides flexible and responsive resources for our supply chain. This makes us more competitive and also ready for a new upswing in western markets”, adds Michel Riva, CEO of R&M.

R&M has operated a proprietary production facility in India since 2014. The new plant offers space for 400 to 500 employees over three floors. “Due to demand, we are already planning two and three-shift operations”, as Markus Stieger, COO of R&M, explains in the press release. According to information from the company itself, the entire Indian telecom industry as well as metro and smart city projects are using fiber optic products developed by R&M. In the press release, R&M points to high demand for fiber optic connection solutions for the base stations of the new 5G networks in India. ce/hs
