The general public can ice skate sustainably this winter on Bern’s historic Bundesplatz. Glice has set up a “waterless zero-energy skating rink” there, as the Lucerne-based manufacturer of artificial ice rinks states in a press release. Glice synthetic rinks do not require water or electricity, nor do they need to be resurfaced.
“Glice looks like ice, glides like ice, but isn’t ice”, explains Viktor Meier, co-founder and CEO of Glice, in the press release. The sustainable artificial ice rink can be used throughout the year and in all weather conditions as well.
According to information from the company itself, Glice has already installed more than 2,000 of its synthetic ice rinks in more than 85 countries. Professional and competitive athletes also use the company’s artificial ice rinks for training purposes because they feel like real ice, Glice explains in the press release. The ice rink in Bern is open to the public until February 12, 2023. hs
