Langnau i.E./Bern - The printing firm Vögeli belongs to the ranks of pioneers of circular packaging. Its solutions are certified in line with the Cradle to Cradle Gold standard and are, for example, used to package food, textiles and cosmetics. Now, Vögeli’s attention turns to exhibiting at the EMPACK trade fair in Bern.

The European Union (EU) is urging packaging suppliers in Europe to make their solutions sustainable by implementing certain regulatory requirements. In future, the EU is likely to go one step further by mandating that packaging must comply with the principles of a circular economy.

Vögeli from the canton of Bern already offers such packaging solutions. The world’s first printing firm to have its products certified in line with the strict Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold standard has been producing packaging that is free from harmful substances and fully circular for some time now.

This packaging is already used today by suppliers of high-quality products. For example, the Graubünden-based charcuterie company Alpahirt sells its dried meat specialties in cardboard-based packaging made by Vögeli. The printing company, which is based in the Emmental region of Switzerland, also supplied recyclable packaging for circular pajamas produced by the textiles firm Calida. For its part, Washo AG from Baar in the canton of Zug sells its shower care products in Vögeli packaging, as does Lanz Natur AG for its Lanur cosmetics line.

"Recyclable packaging will become mandatory in the near future," says Co-Managing Director Renato Vögeli. "We are proud that we can already offer our customers high-quality, tried-and-tested solutions today."

Vögeli will also be exhibiting at the EMPACK trade fair, which takes place January 24-25 at the Bernexpo exhibition center. In addition to showcasing its circular product packaging, shipping bags and mailing packaging, the printing firm will also, thanks to a variety of printing techniques, be highlighting the ways in which it can integrate packaging solutions in the suppliers’ own marketing and campaign concepts. These can also include inlays and flyers lined with flower seeds, to give something back to nature in the form of climate-positive print products. ce/stk
