The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) is further expanding its central research program in the area of immunology and infectious diseases. Caroline Junqueira will move to Bellinzona in the canton of Ticino to join the IRB, which is affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). According to a press release issued by the USI, this will further strengthen the Bellinzona biomedical cluster that is developing around the Bellinzona Institutes of Science Association (Bios+).
An expert in the field of human immune response to infectious diseases, Caroline Junqueira is currently a Senior Researcher at Boston Children's Hospital, part of Harvard Medical School, and Associate Professor at the René Rachou Institute in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte. She will begin her activities as Group Leader on August 1, 2023.
Born in Brazil, Junqueira has already contributed numerous scientific articles to leading international journals in the field of biomedicine. She was selected from 99 applicants from around the world in response to an international call issued last September.
The eight best candidates presented their work and research program to the Bio+ community. The IRB chose Junqueira as their winning candidate “because of her accomplishments to date and because her research complements, both in terms of topics and technological knowledge, the program of other groups active at the IRB.” ce/mm
