Wallisellen - In the latest online version of its business platform, Ecospeed has made capturing Scope 3 emissions far easier. At the simple touch of a button, the software is able to break down the 15 required categories for companies’ CSR reporting in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standard.

Ecospeed from the canton of Zurich has added a new functionality to its company-wide carbon accounting software, which is now available online. The latest version of Ecospeed Business allows Scope 3 emissions to be calculated in accordance with the 15 categories of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standard (GHG). This precise and rather complex process of capturing data is required under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) directive adopted by the EU in December 2022, among others.

For carbon accounting in compliance with the CSR directive, emissions are divided into various tiers known as “Scopes”. Scope 1 includes the company’s direct emissions, while Scope 2 covers indirect emissions arising from the generation of the required electricity or district heating. Lastly, Scope 3 includes all other emissions generated by upstream and downstream business operations, such as the transport of goods or commuting employees.

According to the information, to display Scope 3 emissions, users simply need to click on a button. “We have been working on this feature for quite some time”, comments Dr. Sabine Bödefeld, senior consultant at Ecospeed. “Of course, users have to make certain preparations and collaborate, as well as entering data, but the software independently handles the GHG-compliant categorization”. Moreover, the platform also offers users support with the calculation. ce/mm
