Exentis revolutionizes the production of ultra-fine structures

Stetten - Exentis’ 3D technology can increase efficiency and quality in the production of ultra-fine filter structures. According to a study, one exemplary advantage of this Swiss technology is improved imaging in innovative X-ray devices.

Exentis' 3D technology is well positioned to fully develop its key benefits in the production of ultra-fine filter structures, according to a study by the management consultancy Roland Berger. Exentis Group AG from the canton of Aargau is the leading provider of a 3D technology platform for industrialized manufacturing. The platform enables the production of millions of industrial parts or cleanroom applications such as tablets on a single 3D production system. In addition to the strategic business field of Ultra-fine Structures, Exentis focuses on the business areas of New Energy and Pharma & Medtech.

For the ultra-fine filters that are relevant to Exentis, Roland Berger’s experts expect annual growth of 6 per cent until 2026. Exentis' focus is on micro-disc filters, which are used in the automotive industry, among others; casting filters, for a wide range of industrial applications; and X-ray collimators. None of these areas has to date deployed 3D technologies, due to obstacles including the small quantities that could previously be achieved with 3D processes. Exentis' 3D technology platform, on the other hand, can achieve large-scale industrial production of these parts.

Unlike other manufacturing processes, the use of Exentis’ 3D technology makes it possible to optimize materials. For example, tungsten, the preferred material for X-ray collimators, can be processed much better with 3D screen printing. In addition to a broad material portfolio ranging from metals and ceramics to biomaterials, the technology also facilitates multi-material processing. Up to four materials can be printed in one layer or across layers. ce/yvh
