Zurich/Mexico City - ABB is supplying charging stations for the ninth season of the Formula E World Championship. The first race of the new season takes place in Mexico, where the Zurich-based firm has been active for 75 years already. The electric cars will also be raced in Brazil, India and the USA.

This year, ABB is supplying the charging stations used to charge the electric racing cars taking part in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Thanks to the technology developed by the Zurich-based leader in electrification and automation, a single charging station can be used to charge two vehicles at the same time. The charging stations were developed together with engineers from the FIA, the governing body for motorsport (French: Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), and Formula E.

The first race of the new season gets underway on January 14 in Mexico City. “Returning to Mexico City with its incredible atmosphere and passionate fans is an ideal location to kick-off what is an important milestone for ABB in our partnership with Formula E”, comments  Daniela Lužanin, Head of the ABB Formula E partnership, in a press release. The Formula E World Championship serves “as a platform to help push the boundaries of technology and create a more sustainable future” for ABB.

According to ABB, it has been present in Mexico for 75 years and employs 5,000 people locally. The company has already realized several major projects in Mexico. Among other initiatives, it installed a system for the transformation and monitoring of electrical energy at a new plant in Veracruz owned by one of the world’s largest beverage and food companies.

The Formula E calendar for 2023 includes 16 races in 11 cities. After Mexico, the next race will take place in Diriyah in Saudi Arabia. Other race destinations this year include Hyderabad in India, the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, São Paulo in Brazil and Portland in the US State of Oregon, among others. ssp
