Niedergösgen/Olten - Hydrospider AG has delivered its first 1,000 metric tons of green hydrogen. The company plans to promote sustainable mobility and drive forward the decarbonization of heavy goods traffic through the production and distribution of this environmentally friendly fuel.

Hydrospider AG has delivered its first 1,000 metric tons of green hydrogen. Together with its partners, including the supportive association H2-Mobilität Schweiz and Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, Hydrospider has been working to establish an ecosystem for hydrogen procurement, manufacture, and logistics since 2020. According to a press release from the company based in Olten in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland, the start of delivery represents a milestone.

A 2-megawatt electrolysis system at the Gösgen hydropower plant at the Niedergösgen site can create up to 300 metric tons of CO2-free hydrogen per year. This could charge 40 to 50 trucks or 1,700 electric vehicles for a whole year.

Hydrospider AG arose from a collaboration between the energy service provider and energy producer Alpiq and H2-Energie. The companies each hold 45 percent of the shares in Hydrospider AG. The remaining 10 percent is owned by Linde GmbH.

The green hydrogen from Hydrospider and its partners, such as Wasserstoffproduktion Ostschweiz, is currently used as a fuel by around 20 operators of fuel cell electric trucks. According to the press release, the fleet of H2 trucks has already driven 9 million kilometers to date, saving 7,000 metric tons of CO2. Hydrospider’s CEO Nicolas Crettenand commented: “At Hydrospider, we are convinced that green hydrogen can make a significant contribution to the decarbonization of Swiss heavy goods traffic in future as well.” ce/js
