Landis+Gyr and SPAN jointly develop new electrification solution

Cham/San Francisco - Landis+Gyr and SPAN have developed their first joint product. This can be used to flexibly control power loads at any location. The product is intended to improve the use of existing infrastructure. The two companies are presenting their solution at DistribuTECH in Orlando until February 29.

Landis+Gyr, the global supplier of smart metering solutions from Cham in the canton of Zug, and SPAN, a specialist in the field of private energy management based in San Francisco in the USA, have entered into a partnership. Together, the two companies are striving to drive electrification and help utilities to improve the utilization of existing infrastructure, develop flexibility management for distributed energy resources (DER) and improve customer retention rates.

According to a press release, within the framework of their partnership, Landis+Gyr and SPAN will combine energy management solutions with industry-leading intelligence at the end point, i.e. at the grid edge of smart metering infrastructure. The first jointly developed solution is a virtual power plant at the interface between the home and the distribution network. The press release explains that this is the industry’s first grid edge solution with billing-grade metering at circuit level, DER visibility and control options.

Meeting the increasing power demand as a result of the electrification of transport and buildings requires new and innovative means of controlling the load at each location, the press release states. “The collaborative solution innovated by our two companies will revolutionize the way end consumers and utilities combine their efforts to manage energy better and decarbonize the grid as a result”, comments Werner Lieberherr, CEO of Landis+Gyr, in the press release.

The two companies are showcasing their new product and partnership until February 29 at DistribuTECH 2024 in Orlando, Florida. ce/mm
