Lucerne - Lucerne’s city council has updated its business development strategy. The city aims to sustain a modern technology cluster. Companies will be supported in future when looking for premises. Additionally, Lucerne will become more attractive for expats.

According to an article in the Luzerner Zeitung, Lucerne’s city council has updated its business development strategy. The new strategic economic model will define the focuses for business development over the years to come. The report presents the most important aims.

For instance, in future a business area manager will provide companies with support when renting or acquiring office and commercial premises. However, the new post will not be located within the city council but rather as an external mandate. The city council plans for the business area management to help with issues concerning the availability of office and commercial premises in Lucerne.

Furthermore, Lucerne is to receive a modern technology cluster, where the city council will unite offices, research, and production. It is suggesting the Bahnhof-Steghof area as a possible location.

The strategy also focuses on simplifying administrative processes through digitization. For example, all communication between management and companies as well as communication for planning applications will be combined in one single channel in each case.

Last but not least, Lucerne is being made more attractive to highly skilled specialists brought to Switzerland by international companies. These expats “should be able to find their feet in Lucerne more quickly” according to the report. Additionally, the city plans to establish new international schools with the help of the canton. ce/hs
