Daniel Dinizo, co-founder and CEO of NaturLoop, presented his startup company’s inaugural product at the nexCafé – Material Meetup in Kyoto on 15 February. The spin-off from Bern University of Applied Sciences has developed a construction panel made from the fibers of coconut shells. The so-called Cocoboard, which is soon to be launched on the market, can be used in furniture manufacturing as well as in interior design.
The event in Japan was well timed, writes Bern University of Applied Sciences in a statement. NaturLoop is currently pushing ahead with the construction of its first factory in the Philippines, it explains. With this plant, the startup company, which is based in Biel in the canton of Bern, wants to expand in the Asian market.
The nexCafé event series was launched last year by Swissnex, Switzerland's global network for education, research and innovation. Swissnex aims to strengthen Switzerland's reputation as a hotspot for innovation through international networking. At the event on 15 February, speakers from architecture, design, research and handcrafts presented their work in the field of sustainable materials. hs
