Zurich - Rahul Sahgal was unanimously elected as the new CEO of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce (Swiss AmCham) on 14 November. The Swiss national will contribute his experience in the private sector and government agencies to effectively support the business interests of the members.

On 14 November, the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce elected Swiss citizen Rahul Sahgal as its new CEO. According to a statement, he will take office in summer 2024. Sahgal succeeds Martin Naville, who has stepped down after 20 years.

Martin Naville was not easy to replace after 20 years in office, according to Riet Cadonau, Chairman of Swiss Amcham. “We were fortunate to have an excellent field of candidates,” he said, but the board unanimously elected Rahul Sahgal. “We are convinced that in him we have found a very good new CEO who will build on the strengths of today's Swiss Amcham and will also set his own accents."

Born in 1977, Sahgal’s career has taken him from textile machinery manufacturer Rieter to Autoneum in India, where he was also President of the Northern Chapter of the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce. After a year as Attaché in Brussels, he spent 2014 to 2017 as Deputy Head of Unit in the Human Security Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Bern. Subsequently, he was Counsellor and Head of Financial and Fiscal Affairs at the Swiss Embassy in Washington for four years. Since 2021, he has been Deputy Head of the Tax Division at the State Secretariat for International Finance in Bern.

“I will do my utmost to support the members in protecting their business interests efficiently and effectively, be it in the US, Switzerland or in their international activities,” commented Sahgal in the statement. “In doing so, I will be able to contribute my experience in the private sector and with government agencies.” ce/mm
