Prilly - RigiTech is operating the first approved drone route without direct visual pilot contact in France. As such, the company is the first drone manufacturer to be in a position to offer regular medical delivery services by drone.

RigiTech, which is based in Prilly in the canton of Vaud, is supplying laboratories in Bourgoin-Jallieu and Tignieu-Jameyzieu with the help of its Eiger long-range drone via the first approved regular BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) drone route. It is therefore the first company to operate a route of this kind, for which a remote pilot no longer needs direct visual contact with the drone, further details of which can be found in a press release.

In this way, drone delivery is revolutionizing access to health services. The drone connects two labs in half the time. While it takes half an hour to drive the distance of 26 kilometers in a car, the drone makes the same journey in just 15 minutes. This time saving should enable patients to get a faster diagnosis in addition to speeding up access to treatment options.

The Eiger long-range drone is specially designed for transporting blood and biological samples for which a cold chain is required. It can transport a load of up to 3 kilograms and medical containers with up to 150 blood vials.

“The future of medical logistics is here and we’re leading the way. Kudos to our team of committed engineers, who have been able to combine innovation and efficiency with a strong safety-first approach”, comments David Rovira, co-founder and Chief Business Officer of RigiTech, in the press release. ko
