Säntis Malt, a whisky distillery based in Appenzell in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden that is owned by Brauerei Locher, has again been recognized at the World Whiskies Awards 2024 in London, an annual event that celebrates whiskies from around the world. As detailed in a press release, the Alpstein XIX – Sherry Cask whisky edition claimed top prize in the category of Single Malt 12 Years & Under. The products Snow White Nr. 11 - Williams Cask and the Single Cask Monbazillac 21311 - 12 Years each won silver medals, while the Edition Genesis No. 4 and the Single Cask Rum Cask Nr. 988 claimed bronze medals.

“The fact that our single malt whiskies repeatedly garner international recognition is a pleasing confirmation of our work and a real source of pride for us”, comments Kuno Mock, Head of Marketing & Sales for Spirits at Säntis Malt, in the press release.

“We pour huge passion and soul into our products day in, day out, and are convinced of their taste and quality”, explains Aurèle Meyer, Managing Director of Brauerei Locher.

According to information from the company itself, the Säntis Malt Distillery has been producing Säntis Malt since 1999. The production of high ABV drinks on the basis of staple foods such as grains and potatoes has only been permitted in Switzerland since this time. Among other aspects, the production process relies on grains sourced from Swiss mountain areas and spring water from the Alpstein massif. Storing the whisky in oak beer barrels of up to 150 years old is a globally unique approach to whisky making, the company states. ce/ww
