Switzerland co-organizes global conference on sustainable nutrition

Bern/Hanoi - The UN's One Planet Network is hosting the fourth Global Conference of the Sustainable Food Systems Programme in Hanoi at the end of April. Through its co-leadership of the programme, Switzerland is co-organizing the conference. Among others, State Secretary Christian Hofer will present the country's initiatives.

The fourth Global Conference of the United NationsOne Planet NetworkSustainable Food Systems Programme will take place in Hanoi from 24 to 27 April. Switzerland has been acting as co-leader of the programme since 2015, according to a statement from the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG). In this capacity, the country is co-organizing the conference, which will be held under the patronage of the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and hosted by the Vietnamese government.

The conference organizers expect more than 200 participants from all over the world. Their goal is to develop solutions for transformation that will create more sustainable food systems. The results will feed into the first accounts meeting for the UN Food Summit 2021 in Rome in July, explains FOAG.

State Secretary Christian Hofer will attend the conference on behalf of Switzerland. In Hanoi, the FOAG director is expected to present the measures and initiatives the country has already implemented "to promote more sustainable, resilient and participatory food systems", according to the statement. Examples include the Sustainable Development Strategy 2030 and the Federal Council's report on the future direction of agricultural policy. ce/hs
