Switzerland and Hong Kong exploring satellite cooperation

Hong Kong - Two high-ranking Swiss diplomats have paid a visit to the Hong Kong Aerospace Technology Group. At present, the company is in the process of sounding out three Swiss companies with the aim of agreeing partnerships in areas such as satellites, drones and launch vehicles.

Jürg Burri, Ambassador of Switzerland to the People's Republic of China, and Rolf Frei, Consul General at Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong, have met with Paul Chan, the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong. Their meeting took place in Hong Kong itself, which is a special administrative region of China, with other illustrious representatives from the worlds of politics and business also present. Earlier this year, Chan had attended the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

As part of the meeting, the two Swiss diplomats visited the headquarters of Hong Kong Aerospace Technology Group Limited (HKATG), its Satellite Manufacturing Center and the Satellite Operation Control and Application Center. According to a press release issued by the company, it is currently in talks with three Swiss firms active in the aerospace industry regarding a cooperation in the field of commercial space travel. Moreover, HKATG is in the process of actively expanding its business area and is striving to establish international business relationships. According to the information, this relates to the operation of a nano-satellite Internet of Things network and the combination of launch vehicle structure and Artificial Intelligence (AI), in addition to satellites, drones and aviation data.

“If the two parties implement the cooperation, the business layout of Hong Kong Aerospace Science and HKATG will span Europe and Asia”, the press release states. HKATG is the first commercial aerospace company in Hong Kong with a focus on the development of satellite networks and the precision manufacturing of satellites. mm
