Switzerland and Colombia collaborate more closely in research

Zurich - Switzerland and Colombia have affirmed their desire to strengthen their research and innovation collaboration. This was the topic at the heart of discussions during a courtesy visit to Guy Parmelin, member of the Federal Government, in Bern made by Colombian science minister Arturo Luna.

Switzerland and Colombia plan to further develop their relationships with regard to research and innovation. The Colombian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Arturo Luna, and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, discussed this during a meeting in Bern on March 1.

According to a press release, Swiss researchers have shown increasing interest in collaborations with Colombian partners for several years. The framework conditions for this collaboration were discussed at the working meeting with State Secretary Martina Hirayama. It also involved high-ranking representatives of innovation promotion agency Innosuisse and the University of St.Gallen, which has been appointed as the Leading House for the Latin American Region for 2021-2024.

Additionally, the successful collaboration with regard to the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships was praised. Since 1961, it has enabled a total of 170 researchers from the Latin American country to reside at Swiss universities. mm
