Switzerland and UAE continue financial dialog

Bern - During the fifth financial dialog between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Switzerland, the two sides discussed mutual priorities in connection with sustainable financing. Moreover, potential synergies in terms of financing climate projects were identified as well.

The priorities, capabilities and opportunities of the financial systems in Switzerland and the UAE offer chances to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various promotional, economic and financial areas. This was the conclusion reached by the UAE delegation to the fifth financial dialogue in Bern, further details of which can be found in a press release. The Swiss delegation was led by Daniela Stoffel Delperte, State Secretary for International Finance, and Stefan Flückiger, Deputy State Secretary for International Finance.

The UAE delegation was headed up by Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of Ministry of Finance. In his speech, he underlined the importance of this dialog, which “showcases the strength of the UAE-Switzerland partnership". He also indicated that the dialog offers opportunities to further expand the collaboration between both countries.

According to a LinkedIn post by the UAE Ministry of Finance, the topics discussed during the high-level meeting of the responsible authorities from both countries included the common goals shared by the UAE and Switzerland in the area of sustainable finance, in addition to the urgent need to combat climate change. Moreover, the UAE focused on accelerating economic diversification efforts, while the future structure of the financial sector was also a central theme of the talks.

The UAE and Switzerland will pursue common goals for sustainable finance, the press release explains further. This presents a “potential and mutually beneficial alignment area between both countries”. Moreover, the two sides examined potential synergies in the context of financing climate protection programs in the run-up to and during the 28th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which will be hosted by the UAE.
