Basel - The global SET Alliance of the Basel-based BASE foundation intends to clarify the value of digitalization for Product-as-a-Service (PaaS) models in a webinar. The aim is to simplify access to energy-efficient systems and therefore advance the energy transition and circular economy.

The global Servitisation For Energy Transition Alliance, or SET Alliance for short, is pressing ahead with its series of webinars on the subject of servitization for the energy transition. With these events, the alliance, which was founded in 2022 by the BASE (Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy) foundation and other partners, is seeking to play its part in further advancing low-barrier PaaS and Efficiency-as-a-Service models that can help to accelerate the energy transition. At the next webinar on June 18 at 11:30 a.m. CET, the SET Alliance will shed light on the value of digitalization for such models. The overarching goal is to make energy-efficient systems more affordable and accessible worldwide by emphasizing usage over ownership.

As detailed in an announcement by the SET Alliance, digitalization offers new opportunities for efficiency and sustainability on the basis of technology such as sensors, the Internet of Things and cloud computing. In this respect, digital tools could come to play a key role in ‘as-a-Service’ offerings for energy-efficient devices and renewable energies.

The term servitization essentially means that customers pay for a service such as refrigeration rather than buying the actual equipment themselves. This can help to save energy and reduce carbon emissions, in addition to promoting innovation and economic recovery, according to the SET Alliance.

The webinar will outline the key synergies between models of this kind and digital solutions. Moreover, it will seek to shed light on the ways in which digitalization and servitization can together facilitate circularity. The company Tamturbo will be showcasing its Compressed Air-as-a-Service offering, while the platform Industrility will demonstrate the benefits of remote monitoring and management of appliances for industrial companies. Registrations for the event can be made online. ce/mm
