SIG, a company active in the packaging industry from Neuhausen am Rheinfall in the canton of Schaffhausen, has put into operation a new production plant for aseptic carton packaging in the Mexican city of Queretaro. According to a press release, after just a year of construction this year’s production is to start with a volume of 500 million items of packaging. An increase to 1.2 billion medium and large carton packs is anticipated by 2024. There are plans to also produce small items of packaging in future.
The new factory in Queretaro spans around 21,000 square meters. This will provide a new workplace for 200 employees. The new production site specializes in printing, cutting, and refining carton packaging. For this, the new factory has extremely flexible production resources with a focus on ergonomics and the environment.
Eduardo Gatica, Director of Cluster North America at SIG, commented in the press release: “Through our existing sales and service presence in North America, we have built strong relationships with our customers in Mexico and established a strong co-manufacturing network in the US. Our new packaging plant will enable us to keep up with the growing demand for aseptic carton packs and serve our North American customers faster and more efficiently.” He adds that SIG is excited to start production in Mexico. ce/ww
