Baar/Liaoning - Sika has opened a new plant in Liaoning, China, where it will produce mortar products. The company hopes its new plant will enable it to efficiently meet market demands and reduce logistical distances.

Sika has launched a state-of-the-art mortar plant in Liaoning, China. The global company from Baar in the canton of Zug in Switzerland, which produces specialty chemicals for construction and industry, announced in a press release that the new plant is its 34th production site in China. It will be used to manufacture mortar, tile adhesives and waterproofing solutions, which will be supplied to customers in three provinces in northeastern China and in east-central Mongolia. The company says its objective is to reduce delivery times and improve service levels.

According to the press release, the range of products will include mortar products that incorporate up to 20% recycled raw materials during the manufacturing process, such as waste dust and mineral waste residues. The opening of the new plant also marks the start of Sika’s initiative to switch from natural to alternative sands. The company is aiming to meet half of its sand requirements with alternative materials by 2028.

The new plant includes production facilities, offices, laboratories and infrastructure for warehousing and logistics. “This expansion reinforces our commitment to quality and excellence, while aligning with Sika’s global sustainability goals,” says Philippe Jost, Regional Manager Asia/Pacific at Sika. ce/heg
