Frauenfeld/West Chester - Silony Medical has completed a takeover of the US firm Centinel Spine. As a result, the medtech company will significantly expand its position on the US market for spinal surgery.

Silony Medical from Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau has completed the acquisition of the US firm Centinel Spine, further details of which can be found in a press release. Based in Pennsylvania, the company specializes in the field of spinal fusion surgery. In terms of surgery, the techniques developed by Silony are to be combined with those of Centinel Spine. The end result is that patients should benefit from a minimally invasive spinal fusion procedure for which the surgery can be performed using posterior, lateral or anterior approaches.

For this, the Verticale plate developed by Silony with screws and rods will be used for the posterior approach. For the other approaches, the Roccia and Favo Interbody Fusion systems are combined with Centinel Spine’s STALIF technology.

With Centinel Spine now to be merged into Silony, plans have been drawn up to refresh the STALIF system. At the same time, the new company will set about developing special tools for spinal surgery. These innovations are intended to drive further adoption of the spinal fusion techniques among the surgeon community, the press release explains.

The new company will shortly be renamed Silony Spine. With the takeover now finalized, the Swiss company is set to significantly expand its US market position, which it first started to develop in 2018. ce/ww
