Bern/Toronto - The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has agreed a partnership with the international research network CIFAR. In the first step, CIFAR fellows are to be networked with researchers in Switzerland. The SNSF is already accepting applications.

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is establishing a closer partnership with CIFAR, an international research network based in the Canadian city of Toronto. The SNSF signed a corresponding Expression of Interest with CIFAR during a visit to Canada in April of this year, the SNSF writes in a press release. The research network “brings together the world’s top scientists and future research leaders”, the press release explains, with a focus on “high-risk, high-gain research”.

CIFAR runs interdisciplinary programs in which exceptional researchers work together in order to “advance knowledge and change the world”, the SNSF explains. Starting this month, the first program meetings will be held in Switzerland, when CIFAR fellows will be networked with Swiss researchers. Seminars on key topics will also be held, while Swiss researchers are set to be appointed as CIFAR fellows as well.

Researchers with an interest in getting involved in CIFAR programs can apply to the SNSF as of now. In the press release, the SNSF provides information on the requirements and the relevant email address to contact. Applications can already be submitted for the first program, namely the CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars. ce/hs
