Kloten/Schindellegi/Purchase - The two Swiss companies SR Technics and Kühne+Nagel, together with New York-based Atlas Air, have established a global alliance for sustainable engines. Members are committed to implementing new industry standards for low-carbon supply chains.

SR Technics, located in Kloten in the canton of Zurich, Kühne+Nagel, based in Schindellegi in the canton of Schwyz, and New York airline Atlas Air presented the Sustainable Engine Alliance at Aviation Week MRO Americas 2023 in Atlanta. According to a press release issued by the founding partners, members of the alliance are committed to setting new industry standards for low-carbon aircraft engine supply chains. These are in line with the objectives of the Science Based Target Initiative, the evidence-based corporate climate action organization.

The alliance aims to reduce the collective environmental impact of its members by establishing networks for sustainable engine supply chains and providing a portfolio of sustainable services. It is determined to promote low-carbon engine supply chains and to play an active role in developing best practice. The first initiatives include a global digital interface for emission transparency, reduction and avoidance, the deployment of sustainable fuels, and engine stand management solutions.

Erik Goedhart, SVP Global Head of Aerospace at Kühne+Nagel, believes partnership is the key to greater sustainability in aerospace: “We invite other value chain companies to join us.” James Forbes, Executive Vice President and COO of Atlas Air Worldwide, the sole owner of Atlas Air, is convinced that a joint approach “will guide us well into the future and help us achieve our environmental stewardship goals.” mm
