Wyss Academy for Nature agrees partnership in Thailand

The Wyss Academy for Nature, which is based at the University of Bern, has agreed a new partnership with the Regional Centre for People and Forests (RECOFTC), further details of which can be found in a LinkedIn post. The RECOFTC is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the Thai capital of Bangkok that promotes sustainability and reforestation projects across Southeast Asia. The RECOFTC also houses the Southeast Asian hub of the Wyss Academy for Nature, which is currently based at Kasetsart University in Bangkok.
As part of the new collaboration, the Wyss Academy for Nature and the RECOFTC intend to join forces to support livelihoods and nature conservation in Southeast Asia. According to the LinkedIn post, the partners have already launched the first joint projects in Nan Province in the northwest of Thailand, where the RECOFTC is working on innovative financing mechanisms to support reforestation efforts. Further projects are said to be in the pipeline. The Wyss Academy for Nature and the RECOFTC are additionally keen cooperate with local research partners.
The Wyss Academy for Nature’s mission is to find improved methods of combining “the knowledge of issues surrounding climate change, biodiversity loss and unjust land use with urgent action”, as the organization writes on its website. Alongside Southeast Asia, the organization also has hubs in East Africa and South America. In total, the Wyss Academy for Nature already employs more than 60 staff. ce/ssp
