Thömus unveils new bike in Santa Monica

The Bernese bicycle manufacturer Thömus has launched its new e-bike Swissrider. The bike was presented at the new Thömus location in Santa Monica, the company's first presence outside of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Thömus partner Bernardo Gonzalez runs the bicycle boutique Cyclique there. As a franchise entrepreneur, he exclusively offers the entire Thömus range. Each bike is hand-built on site in the Santa Monica workshop and to customers' specifications.
“In the USA, velomobility has huge potential,” commented Thömus CEO Thomas Binggeli in a company statement. “Swiss precision is in demand there.” When Binggeli explained his vision, Gonzalez said it was immediately clear to him "that this would be a success story in California". He could not be more excited about “serving the local community with the finest bikes and service available anywhere,” Gonzalez told the trade magazine “Bicycleretailer”. Thömus is also opening more shops in its home market: at the start of the year, additional locations opened in Lenzburg and in Triesen in Liechtenstein. In April, another will open in Schaan.
The new Swissride, which according to Thömus is "probably the nimblest e-bike ever", weighs just 11.5 kilograms with its ultra-light carbon frame and is intended for daily use. Its drive technology from maxon has also proven itself in NASA's Mars Rover. The two companies launched a joint bike for the first time last summer with the Lightrider E Ultimate e-mountain bike. Alongside Binggeli, the presentation was attended by the Ambassador and Consul General of Switzerland in San Francisco, Balz Abplanalp, and the former NASA CTO Thomas Zurbuchen, as well as the CEO of the maxon Group, Eugen Elmiger.
