Geneva/Dubai - The Dubai-based Jumeirah Group has purchased Le Richemond hotel in Geneva, which is steeped in tradition. The luxury hotel operator intends to renovate the property located on the banks of Lake Geneva, which has been closed since 2020, with a reopening planned for 2025.

The luxury hotel chain Jumeirah Group is coming to Switzerland: it has bought the Geneva-based hotel Le Richemond. Based in Dubai, the hotel operator intends to reopen the property as an ultra-luxury hotel. This is the fifth European property in the Jumeirah portfolio of 26 hotels and resorts overall.

“This is an important acquisition for Jumeirah as it marks our entry into Switzerland”, comments Katerina Giannouka, CEO of Jumeirah Group, in a press release. Geneva is also of strategic importance as the gateway to the European mountains. In addition, this acquisition will support Jumeirah’s vision of becoming one of the top five luxury hotel brands in the world.

Founded in 1875, the 5-star hotel with 87 rooms and 22 suites is situated in a prime location in the city’s business district, right on the banks of Lake Geneva and close to the city’s luxury boutiques. It had been closed since the summer of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Extensive renovations will now seek to “elevate the guest experience to a level consistent with Jumeirah’s brand expectations”. This will include the group’s familiar wellness and fitness concepts in addition to its culinary expertise.

According to Giannouka, the renovation will aim to preserve the heritage of this 140-year-old hotel. Its reopening is planned for 2025. mm
