Sika opens cutting-edge technology center in China

Baar/Suzhou - Sika has opened a new technology center in China. Here, sustainable, high-performance solutions for the transformation of the construction and vehicle industries are to be developed. Sika also has its sights set on increasing its innovative power across the Asia-Pacific region.

Sika, the specialty chemicals company for industry and the construction sector, is expanding its research and development capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region by opening a new cutting-edge technology center in China. As detailed in a press release, the company will seek to drive the development of sustainable, high-performance technologies for the transformation of the construction sector and automotive industry at its new facility.

The technology center is located in Suzhou on the outskirts of Shanghai. Across an area of 9,000 square meters, approximately 150 employees will be tasked with researching future technologies, the press release states. The focus will be on researching material technologies in the context of renewable energies such as solar and wind energy, as well as energy storage solutions and e-mobility. Another focus will be on further developing adhesives and sealants, concrete admixtures and CO2-reducing cement technologies.

With its cutting-edge lab space and other facilities, the new location offers an “ideal framework for close collaboration between our research teams”, as Patricia Heidtman, Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer, comments in the press release. In this way, the company will be in a position to “develop forward-looking technologies for our customers that combine sustainability with performance”, she concludes.

According to the press release, this is Sika’s second-largest technology center, which came at a cost of a double-digit million sum in Swiss francs in terms of the investment volume. ce/heg
