With the expansion of its North American headquarters and robotics manufacturing facilities in Auburn Hills in the US State of Michigan, ABB is seeking to “significantly” increase its production capacities. The expansion project featuring the latest in automated and advanced manufacturing processes is set to be operational by November 2023, further details of which can be found in a press release. The investment volume for this project comes in at 20 million US dollars. Since 2010, ABB has already invested 14 billion US dollars in its US operations, the press release states.
According to ABB, customers will benefit from the increased productivity of the plant, particularly in growth sectors such as electric vehicles, healthcare, packaging and logistics. With this expansion project, the energy and automation group is seeking to respond to the growing demand for automation from 70 percent of American companies who want to locate their production closer to their domestic market. This statistic comes from a survey carried out by ABB Robotics that surveyed a total of 1,610 executives in the USA and Europe in June 2022.
“As the global mega trends of labor shortages, uncertainty, the near and reshoring of production, and a desire to operate more sustainably accelerate, more businesses are turning to automation to build resilience while improving efficiency and flexibility”, comments Sami Atiya, President of ABB Robotics and Discrete Automation, in the press release. The expansion of the robotics facility will enable the company to better serve its customers in the USA and across the Americas by offering them “access to innovative automated solutions”. mm
